Claims it provides markers of abnormal development in the nervous system. researchers have suggested there may be links between fingerprints \u2014 and equally unique palm prints \u2014 and the risk of conditions as diverse as diabetes, Alzheimer\u2019s, leukemia, impotence,&nbsp;depression&nbsp;and even gum disease.<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/home\/search.html?s=&amp;authornamef=Roger+Dobson+for+the+Daily+Mail\">ROGER DOBSON FOR THE DAILY MAIL<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">14 February 2018<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/health\/article-5382981\/Diseases-detected-fingerprint.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/health\/article-5382981\/Diseases-detected-fingerprint.html<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The theory behind dermatoglyphics \u2014 the scientific study of fingerprints and disease links \u2014 is that if the growth of limbs, organs or other tissues is disturbed in very early fetal life, there will also be changes in the configurations of finger and palm prints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These changes, it is argued, are therefore visible and permanent markers of abnormal development in the nervous system and other areas that are developing in the womb at the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our fingerprints, the tiny ridges and troughs in the skin, are unique. Although identical twins share DNA, no two people have ever been found to have the same fingerprints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each unique pattern is produced by a combination of effects on the foetal fingers in the womb when they are formed between the 11th and 24th week of pregnancy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The environment in the womb is influenced by factors including blood pressure, hormonal mix, maternal diet and any infections, the position of the foetus in the womb and the density of amniotic fluid around the foetal fingers \u2014 these, as well as genes, are thought to play key roles in determining each individual pattern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are three main patterns: whorls, arches and loops (see box, right), and it is the number of these plus shape, size and spacing that makes everyone unique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"881\" height=\"588\" src=\"https:\/\/sinaiyah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/1000_F_395100955_QcJ4bRz5sSHE3LkahWBofMjHSbBeHFAY-edited.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1023\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sinaiyah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/1000_F_395100955_QcJ4bRz5sSHE3LkahWBofMjHSbBeHFAY-edited.jpg 881w, https:\/\/sinaiyah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/1000_F_395100955_QcJ4bRz5sSHE3LkahWBofMjHSbBeHFAY-edited-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sinaiyah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/1000_F_395100955_QcJ4bRz5sSHE3LkahWBofMjHSbBeHFAY-edited-768x513.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 881px) 100vw, 881px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Professor Raj Persad, consultant urologist with Bristol Urology Associates, said: \u2018There is scientific rationale to link any genetically determined feature such as fingerprints with other genetically determined characteristics, such as specific types of infertility.
